Celebrate the Small Things

I'm not so sure that what I'm celebrating today is small. I'll tell you in a minute, but first hats off to co-hosts for this blog hop,  Lexa Cain @ Lexa Cain , L.G. Keltner @ Writing Off The Edge , and Tonja Drecker @ Kidbits Blog  You can go to any of these sites to get all the links and add your name to the links.

Yesterday I didn't have time to post because I was running around doing errands in preparation for a coming trip. I also was without my computer for most of the day because I took it in for diagnosis and possible repairs at a place called Core Care. My computer had been slowing down, which sounded like possibly hard drive problems. Nope. A few little software hitches that were tweaked, and that was all. I know this is blog hop is called "Celebrate the small things," but  -- not needing a new hard drive and extensive repairs? And possibly not being without my computer for a few days while in the middle of a rewrite? For me, this was HUGE.

What are you celebrating this week? Are you pretty dependent on your computer?

Phew! SO glad it wasn't more major!

That is so strange - my laptop's been slowing down and on Sat, it crashed and wouldn't open. Yes, I freaked out! But then I realized my microwave wasn't working either, so that means there's something wrong with the electricity. (My micro is like the canary in the mine shaft for electricity problems - it's always the first to go.) It's too hot here and everyone's running their A/C. After about 6 hrs of low electricity, everything got back to normal. The laptop's good and so is microwave. I've already replaced the hard drive once this year. My laptop's old and on its last legs, but all the new programs scare me so I don't want a new one.

Yay for your computer only needing minor tweaks! Have a lovely weekend! :)

My hubs computer has been slowing down to snail speed. I'll have to suggest the program problems to him and see what he says. Computer problems are a nightmare, so big congrats on getting them solved!

As one whose hard drive went kerflooey twice, necessitating two trips to The Geek Squad before they realized that it was a buildup of dust, and fixed the problem, I celebrate you NOT disastrous computer situation! I hope the rewrites go well and the Computer, having Learned Its Lesson, behaves in the proper fashion!

Thanks, Kate. So am I! We're getting ready for a trip -- and who know how long repairs can be if there's a serious problem? Feeling verrrry lucky!

Wow, I'm so glad that it only was an electricity brownout that could solve itself. It's terrible how dependent we get on our computers, isn't it!

Hope your husband's computer problems turn out to be as minor as mine. The technician who helped me gave me a wonderful tip (if your hubs' computer is an Apple). Restart every day. That alone cleans up a lot of little things that slow your computer down.

Hi, Diana. Thanks for the good wishes. Glad your computer's problem was only a build up of dust and nothing major. As for my computer having learned it's lesson, I'm the one that had to learn (Apple) lessons: Throw out the trash more often; put download in folders and then throw them into trash; restart every day or at least as often as possible. (It had been weeks for me.)

Glad your repairs were easy and cheap. That is worth celebrating.

Thank goodness you didn't need costly repairs! I find that while I use the computer a lot. If I go offline for awhile--I did almost all of last week because of a bad cold--I don't miss socializing on FB and Twitter as much as I thought I would. As a matter of fact, I have to make myself start logging in everyday. As a writer, I decidedly like writing on my computer more than I do socializing & marketing, but without all 3, my books wouldn't sell, so what would be the point? Everything I do on the computer is essential to my success. I have to keep reminding myself of that.

You bet, Rosi. I was so relieved. With the trip coming up, I was worried about whether I would end up with no computer by departure, since you never know how long repairs will take. If you have an Apple, I highly recommend these folks!

Desiree, it's so funny to hear you say that. I'm doing a lot of house and yard projects before a coming trip, and I've been so focused on cleaning and gardening and sorting and organizing, that time just flies. I don't miss the online stuff. But -- when things are in order and I'm free to relax, boy do I love the Internet and all my sites. And all my writing files (backed up, of course) are on the computer, so my Mac is a vital part of my writing life for sure!

Computers have a tendency to know when you need them most, and then they either slow down or stop. I think they want you to appreciate them.

Lee, I so relate to that way of viewing computers! Thanks for my first chuckle of he day.

Computer problems are always a pain. I depend on mine for my writing. I'm so paranoid about losing files that I back them up in multiple places. I'm glad to hear yours was a simple fix! Have a great trip!

Hi, Lori, Actually it's not so paranoid to back them up multiple times. The technician who helped me advised to have more than one back-up.Like you, I depend on my computer for my writing. I joke that my life is on my computer. Thanks for the good wishes about the trip. I am so ready for it!

Yes, a small tweak on a computer repair is totally cause for celebration! I've had lots of nail-biting moments while waiting for a computer problem to be diagnosed :)

Elizabeth Varadan, Author said...

Jessica, "nail-biting" is so apt! I emailed several files to my husband so that he could download them on an old PC so that I could work on them if the repairs were going to be time consuming. I was so relieved. Diagnostics and tweaks all done in one afternoon. :-)

So glad it wasn't anything more serious. I am completely dependent on my computer and mine has been pretty slow lately too. Hopefully it is a simple fix too.

Whew, glad you don't need a new computer.
I like your new background!

Elizabeth Varadan, Author said...

I hope it's a simple fix, too, Doreen. Nothing that makes you have to be cut off from your work and sites for any length of time.

Thanks, Sandra.
