Celebrating a Sisters in Crime meeting

It's Saturday, but yesterday I was too busy to post. It was worth celebrating, though, the time to read. I was reading a manuscript to critique and a book to review. Today, though is the monthly meeting of our local chapter of Sisters in Crime. The Chapter is called Capitol Crimes, since Sacramento is the state capitol. It's always a great meeting, with well-known authors speaking, and today is one of my favorite mystery writers, Terry Shames. So looking forward to her take on the writing process and tips on writing mysteries.

PS: Thursday at Art Club my assistant who came was wonderful. She worked with the younger kids who were having trouble getting the hang of things. Her friends weren't able to come because they get out of school too late, but actually, one assistant is enough, and she's serious about it.

I so enjoy this blog hop, Celebrate the Small Things, thanks to co-hosts,  Lexa Cain @ Lexa Cain , L.G. Keltner @ Writing Off The Edge , and Tonja Drecker @ Kidbits Blog  You can go to any of these sites to get all the links and add your name to the links.

Hope all of you out there are having a wonderful Saturday. What are you celebrating today?

Rosi, you would really enjoy the meetings. The crowd is friendly, the speakers good, and I always learn so much!

I love the name of your group!

Hi, Lee. Actually, it's not my group. It's a national group for writers of mysteries. I also belong to the local chapter here in Sacramento called, appropriately, Capitol Crimes, since Sacramento is the capital of California. It's open to writers and readers of mysteries, and it's also open to men as well as women, despite its name. They bring in speakers who are know writers in the mystery genre. If mysteries appeal to you, you might want to check out whether there is a local branch where you live.

It is great to get together with others that have the same interests. We can learn so much from each other.

I went to a Sisters in Crime Conference/Workshop several years ago in NC and had a blast.

Sandra, I've never been to their conferences, but I really love their meetings. On another note, do you write mysteries?

Time to read is definitely worth celebrating. The Sisters in Crime meeting sounded like a lot of fun. Writers' meetings are always so inspiring.

You are so right, Lori. Writers' meetings always give me such good insights and good energy. My other group met last Sunday to discuss a book I submitted for critique and I gained so many good ideas for the rewrite.

I've always a wanted to join Sisters in Crime. I should! :D

Hi, Chrys, Quite frankly I was initially shy about joining Sisters in Crime, because I had noticed several best-selling authors belonged and I didn't feel up-to-snuff, so to speak. But I took the leap and fount out that there is no particular level of publication history involved or required. If you feel the urge, go for it. You find great new friends, wonderful workshops, and wonderful speakers.
