Poetry and Guests
Happy Post-Thanksgiving Day, everyone. I hope you all had a lovely day.
Today (well yesterday and last week as well) I'm celebrating three things.
But first: Celebrate the Small Things is a blog hop co-hosted by Lexa Cain at: Lexa Cain, L.G. Keltner @ Writing Off The Edge , and Tonja Drecker @ Tidbits Blog. (You can go to any of these sites to add your name to the links, if you want to participate. I recommend it, because it's always fun to see positive news that others are celebrating, and to share your own as well. )
What am I celebrating?
1. Friends from Spain — David & Terri — are visiting us until the 1st of December. They are originally from England but live in Spain, and we met them several years ago on one of our trips and the friendship has continued. It's been great fun taking them to see various sites.
2. We had a great Thanksgiving with them and a wonderful "pre" Thanksgiving with my god-family. Lots of good eating and good company.
3. One of my writing friends — Rosi Hollinbeck, a super writer and beta reader — has had one of her poems anthologized in a The Best of Today's Little Ditty, available HERE. Check it out.
What are you celebrating this week? How was your Thanksgiving? Do you normally have Turkey, or have you started different traditions? Are you a poetry fan? If so, what is your favorite kind of poem, humorous or reflective?

Thanks for the links, Elizabeth! As to questions: we had a home dinner for 2 Thursday that couldn't be beat. One of our San Francisco boys, who had to work the holiday joined us Friday for another dinner (which he prepared) that couldn't be beat. Beginning to sound like "Alice's Restaurant" here. Speaking of which, yes, I'm a fan of poems both humorous and reflective. Incidentally, on the way back from the train station yesterday, we saw a line of 6 wild turkeys strutting along Folsom Blvd. And no, neither they nor their relations were on our holiday menu. All our best to you and Rajan.
Hi, Geo. Almost sounds like that classic, Make Way for Ducklings. Sacramento gets a lot of wildlife. Once I was driving down Watt and saw a coyote trotting down the street and rounding the corner. Glad you and Norma had a good Thanksgiving and that it was extended.
How wonderful to share a special holiday with friends from another country. It gives you such a different perspective and a chance to talk about your traditions.
Yes, we've been enjoying our time with them so much. We will be sorry to see them go.
Sounds like you had a lovely holiday. Thanks for mentioning my poem and the anthology! Very sweet of you. I am thankful for having a lovely time with my family and good friends this weekend.
My 12th grade English teacher encourage me to write poetry, but I've done little writing or reading of it since then, which is a shame. It can be such a powerful form of writing when done well.
Hi, Rosi, yes it was a great holiday time. Did a lot of sightseeing and eating. This may be my favorite time of year: November/December.
Hi; Tamara. For my part, I've always been hooked on poetry, although these days I don't write as much. In addition to your observation that it can be a powerful form of writing, it's also such a pleasurable form of expression. You can say things in a poem that wouldn't work in a novel or story. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.
