Celebrate Early Voting!

Celebrate the Small Things  is a blog hop co-hosted by Lexa Cain at: Lexa Cain,  L.G. Keltner @ Writing Off The Edge , and Tonja Drecker @ Tidbits Blog. (You can go to any of these sites to add your name to the links, if you want to participate. I recommend it, because it's always fun to see news that others are celebrating, and to share your own as well. )

What am I celebrating? Well, actually it's big, not small.

It's been a tumultuous year following the election campaigns, and as Election Tuesday draws near, I'm celebrating the fact that I and my husband already voted yesterday. It feels good to have avoided long lines and the big hubbub of what will surely be a huge turnout on November 8th.

How about you? Have you voted yet? Are you a bit stressed out from following the campaigns?

I just hope you've voted the right way!

Hi, Julia. I think I have. I voted for Hillary Clinton. But I'm pretty sure that anyone voting feels they are voting the right way, including those who vote for Trump. Not all of them are the ones who show up with ugly signs, something important for me to remember, because I dislike everything he stands for. But some of his followers are — I feel — naive and haven't really done their homework. The important thing about democracy is that I may not like the other person's vote, but I believe in their right to it, always.

I get very cross with people who say they can't be bothered to vote. The world is waiting with baited breath - please, God, not Trump!

Yes, that's what we are hoping for, too. I just shudder at the idea of a Trump presidency. Fear for democracy, really, if he becomes president. Our friends in Spain and England feel the same way, as well as our nephew in France. I still shake my head at how things have come to this point.

This has been the most horrendous election year I ever witnessed. I'm sorry to be mean, but if Trump wins, then Americans deserve the consequences. I'm very glad you voted early and have done with it all. I'm waiting on tenterhooks to see what happens on Tuesday. :O

Hi, Lexa, I don't think that's a mean remark at all. It's depressing to think he has so many loyal supporters, but somehow, as a society, we share the responsibility of not taking him seriously enough to expose him earlier. They say you get the government you deserve. I think too many Americans don't deserve what his presidency will lead to. Minorities, immigrants, people of all color who have worked hard for the progress we've made up until now. And it is looking promising for Clinton at this point.

I voted last week and it was the most painful experience I've ever had in an election. No matter who wins, we're in deep trouble with years of fall out to contend with. I'm looking for a small island cave. I'll let you know how that works out.

Hi, Lee. It is painful to see how the fabric of the country has been ripped apart in this campaign season. I understand the desire for a small island cave for sure. We've never been so polarized in all my memory of voting. I'm just praying that we can heal and come together as a country after Tuesday. Luckily, so far, I've kept all my friends. :-)

We've voted by mail-in Absentee Ballot for many years and enjoy talking over our choices at the kitchen table. Norma and I consistently agree on candidates for major offices and most referendums --disagree on some issues but I think she still loves me. We both concur that voting a couple weeks early for the price of 2 postage stamps is well worth the expense.

I voted first day of early voting!
I'm very stressed and hope I won't be after the election but that depends on how it turns out.

Hi, Geo. That's basically what we did. We went through all of the propositions (boy were there a lot this time) and the candidates, and talked about them and circled our choices on the pamphlet we each got. But we went in to the polling place to do our voting. Maybe next time we'll mail the ballots. In any event, it was nice to avoid the crowd, for sure — although the woman I got my ballot from told me it had been busy all week, as busy as during the primary election.

Hi, Sandra; thanks for stopping by to comment. It's interesting how many people are voting early. I don't know if it's just this year or if many people typically vote early and we are just the late comers. Like you, I hope election stress is over by November 9th, depending on the outcome. It's interesting that the tension isn't completely gone even with early voting. I'm still a bit on pins and needles.

I think the whole world is pretty stressed about the US election…. Fingers crossed the right one wins.

Hi, Kate, I agree. This is probably the most stressful election I can ever remember. Just one more day and we'll all know.
